What was your inspiration?

A friend found it and said that is what she would like for Christmas. I had this yarn, knit into a cap I didn't particularly like, so I frogged it and was pleasantly surprised to see how nicely the colors pool with this pattern.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It took me several tries to finally get the hang of this and patience to keep going even though it didn't seem to look like much at first. You have to get some length before the ruffle is obvious. I marked the turning point in two places at each end. That really helps. Think wedge, that is what the short rows create and the result is extra fabric that folds softly into a ruffle. Experiment with different yarns and size needles for different effects.
