What was your inspiration?
A friend of mine and I were talking at lunch about the abuse our heels take during the summer and how, at least here in the south, it is uncomfortable to wear socks. Yet to prevent cracking heels one should put lotion on their heels and wear socks. This was the outcome of that talk. I was going to just knit a pair of socks and stop in the instep, but someone had already written a pattern to do this (THANK YOU!)
What are you most proud of?
Being able to modify the pattern for a bigger foot and still manage to get the right number of stitches on the decreases!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Learn magic loop before doing this. It made it so much easier. Another, don't put the gusset decrease stitch markers on the start or end of the needle. If you are using magic loop before the decreases, arrange your heelie so that the right half is on one needle and the left half is on the other.
