Hold Me Close Heating Pad Cover (Denyse Schmidt Quilts book)

Instructions

I used Denyse Schmidt's pattern as inspiration and for the actual construction of the cover. However, the patchwork design is my own.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Casual, Whimsical

Materials

Cotton quilting fabrics

What was your inspiration?

I made this back in 2005 when Denyse Schmidt's book first came out. I loved her fresh approach to quilting and couldn't wait to make something inspired by her book. It was also the first project that I hand quilted. You can see that it has been very loved (and maybe a little abused).

What are you most proud of?

That I made something beautiful and useful. The old gray polyester cover it came with was so ... unattractive and uncomfortable. Every time I pull out my heating pad now, I smile. :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Go a little crazy! It spends most of its time in the closet, so it's okay if it is a little more loud than you are used to. You might find that you actually like that much color (or whatever your version of crazy is). Have fun!

This would also be a good pattern to use some of the stitches that come on the machine. I never find anywhere to add them and it seems such a waste to have something you can"t find a use for.

Love it. A good useful way to use up some scraps. I think I will give it a try. It sure looks better than the one that comes on the pad.
