What was your inspiration?

The inspiration for this quilt was the sparkling personality of my beautiful little granddaughter, Anna-Claire (featured in the photo). Always sweet, with a bright smile and a love for the outdoors, she is like a ray of sunshine.

What are you most proud of?

I was most proud that the finished product exceeded my initial vision of this quilt. The border was not planned in the original design, and I was surprised that I was able to allow the quilt itself to tell me what the border should be. I am usually very structured, which can sometimes inhibit my creative processes. Perhaps because I allowed Anna-Claire to help with the quilt, I was more relaxed and her presence added a sense of play to the process.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

RELAX and enjoy the process. Allow the fabrics to speak to you.

This quilt is beautiful - my neice recently asked me to make a rainbow quilt with hearts and stars on it and I wasn't sure what to do, now I have a better idea thanks to you!! Did you piece the hearts and flowers or applique them?? Thank you so much for sharing this quilt it is an inspiration to me!! I just hope my neice likes hers as much as your granddaughter seems to love hers!

Thank you!! The hearts, flowers and name are raw edge appliques, stitched with a machine blanket stitch, using variegated thread. I am sure your niece will be thrilled and I would love to see a photo of it when you are finished.
