Ό seam allowance Materials needed: 6 paper pieced heart patterns from Christmas heart project found at http://www.yvonnes.dk/blocks03.htm (I printed out 1 copy and then had it reduced by 60%) This made it a 5 block (on the website linked above and many others, there are different patterns you may choose to make instead. Probably the main thing to remember is to shrink the pattern where it ends up around 5)
Scraps in whatever color you want your hearts to be
Background fabric for your heart blocks (wont need a lot)
1/3 yd for rest of the band and band lining Cut: 4 1 ½ x 5 (for joining the blocks) 1 - 5 strip the length needed to finish band + ½ for seam allowance 1 5 strip the length of the complete band + ½ for seam allowance for the band lining
1 pair of Pillow cases any size you want. (Mine were queen size)
Make 3 heart blocks for each pillow case. Join the blocks using the 1 ½ x 5 strips. Attach the 5 strip cut to finish the band length needed. Attach the band lining, right sides together at 1 long edge. Sew the ends together with the band and band lining still opened out. Now fold the band and lining with wrongs sides together and press well. Pin band to right side of pillow case with fold facing the bottom of the pillow case, matching raw edges of band with the top stitching at the bottom of the pillow case band. Sew with a Ό seam, then press the band up so that it covers the original band. Top stitch Ό away from the bottom edge of new band (from where it is pressed) You are now done! Enjoy this project yourself or give them as a gift. ( if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
