Heart Earrings-Metal Clay

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Torch-Fired Precious Metal Clay »

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Casual, Traditional, Cute

Materials

these are from a class I took locally using the Art Clay brand. I thought I would learn to torch fire, but, alas, they only do the kiln. So picked them up today and cleaned and added the patina. I will be ordering a torch so I can try that with what's left of my clay.

Is this your project? Tell us more!

Thanks Jenny. Actually, my LBS said they send all their students over to Spec's Liquor Store bc they sell the refillable lighters and the triple refined butane, so will hit them up this weekend!

This is an EXCELLENT class and you will not be disappointed. Because of this class, I already knew a lot about working with the metal clay before the local class I attended. Like I said earlier, I was hoping my local class would show me how to torch fire, but it didn't, which was the main reason I took the class! Oh well, still got a finished product (and am waiting for my pendant)

Those are beautiful! You've added texture AND done a multi level piece AND adding a patina, so that is wonderful. Yes, do get a torch, (and be sure to get a solderite pad or charcoal soldering block, too, to do your torching on). I'm glad you are in the class, you will have a wonderful time with your torch and clay!

A friend has already requested that I do a pair for her daughter's birthday! BUT I don't have enough clay left over, so will have to purchase more (oh, DARN, will have to make something else for myself then too!) !!

Look for a tobacco or cigar store...they carry the high end butane. If you can't find the triple refined anywhere, go ahead and get the regular. Your torch may clog and sputter over time, but it's still cheaper than paying a 20 or 30 dollar hazardous materials fee every time you order butane!
