What was your inspiration?
I purchased the fabrics in the hourglass blocks on a trip to Hawaii. After a year or two, I finally decided what to do with them. I chose the hourglass block because I had not done anything with triangles before then, and I wanted to try a quilt top made exclusively of triangles. I have to admit, I was pretty darn tired of triangles by the time I had enough blocks to make a quilt top.
What are you most proud of?
I was a novice quilter when I made this quilt, and I had trust the advice of two quilt shop workers who encouraged me to go with the bright chartreuse inner border. They also suggested the making a bias binding from a striped fabric. Both turned out great, and it really transformed my quilting. I became much more daring, and I fell in love with striped bindings.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I think I may have said this on another project I posted, but here goes again... Traditional quilt blocks make super quilts! Whether you fancy them up with sashing, two-block arrangements, etc., or just use one simple block, beautiful quilts will result. I guess that's why classic quilt blocks have endured for centuries!
