Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Traditional

Materials

This is Red Velvet, Dutch Chocolate & French Vanilla Cake.......with vanilla frosting and fondant icing. The Bow, Ribbons & Numbers were made ahead of time.

What was your inspiration?

This was for my sister-in-law who was turning the big 5 0 !! She is an inspiration to all of us & at the party I was asked to say a few words......Which were "I made her a beautiful gift because that's what she is to our family, a Beautiful Gift !"

What are you most proud of?

This one was the most difficult cake to make so far..... I'm happy that it looked beautiful & the Birthday Girl was so happy with it !

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make the accesories ahead of time & make sure they dry to a hard consistancy. I used fondant, but afterwards I thought for the bow & ribbon, that possibly Gum Paste may have been a better choice. I live in an area that can be very humid, and fondant decorations do not harden as they should in the humidity.

Hi Bobbie: The big 5-0 is an important one, and you honoured your SIL by giving her such a beautiful milestone birthday cake. Very pretty, nice clean lines, and I'm sure it was a lot of work, but a labour of love. I'm currently enjoying the heat at our family cottage in Wasaga Beach, Ontario,
