Sterling Silver Filled Wire, 27x20mm Deep Sea Blue and Peridot colored foil lined glass focal bead.
What was your inspiration?
I love the vibrant colors and shine of the foil-lined pendant bead on this necklace and since it is a pretty large bead (1" x 1/2", or 27mm x 20mm), I wanted to make a substantial, yet classy chain to compliment it. So I used thick 18 guage Sterling silver filled wire for the more than 50 links and even thicker 16 guage for the handmade clasp and ring the pendant bead hangs on. I added two 4mm Sterling silver filled round beads ... one at the top, and one at the bottom of the pendant. I also hammered the circlular part of each link for added interest and definition. The chain, including the clasp, is 21.5" long.
To me this piece is a classic and yet it has a kind of "Industrial Chic" vibe if that's even a jewelry classification!
What are you most proud of?
I came up with the link design on this chain by way of a mistake/accident when I was trying to make a teardrop shaped link. My "teardrops" kept coming out too round, so I finally just went with it!! ;-)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
These links are difficult to make if you have any hand, finger or wrist problems; especially with the thicker 18 guage wire.
