Handknit Handspun Cotton & Silk Shawl

Instructions

I started by handspinning a blend of 70/30 cotton and silk fiber into a very fine and relatively even single ply with lots of strength and just enough irregularity to give it a nice handspun look. I then went back and spun 2 of these single plies together to form a balanced 2 ply (and still lace weight) yarn. This yarn is so very soft and super strong with a lovely sheen.

What was your inspiration?

This shawl is one of my "Mother's Love" shawls. It began when I knit them for my daughters when they had little grandchildren for me. The shawls were meant to keep my daughters warm in the night when they had to get up to nurse their babies. Inevitably the shawl would end up wrapped around the baby and staying a favorite into toddlerhood, a "Linus" blankie. It's all about Mothers wanting to wrap their children in luxury, warmth and love.

What are you most proud of?

The texture and the fit but mostly just that I actually finished it!
