Hand Painted White Roses on plate

My artist signature
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Victorian / Steampunk, Classic

Materials

Mineral based porcelain paints, oils, brushes, etc. Electric Kiln German white porcelain pierced plate blank

What was your inspiration?

I love to paint roses. White roses are the most difficult thing to paint on porcelain because the "porcelain background canvas' is white, white paint would not show up if 'painted' on the porcelain. Consequently, the design must be 'wiped out' from laid color to bring the 'color' of the white rose out of the background.

What are you most proud of?

The ability to paint a white rose on porcelain.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Find a good teacher in your area. Read everything you can on porcelain/china painting. Look at pictures in books of RSGermany, RSPrussia, and other porcelain painters/designers for ideas.

I do both in my retirement. I love to paint porcelain and watercolors, and I also love to quilt and sew and do many other needlework disciplines. But I think porcelain painting is my favorite.

Some of the finest porcelain painters over the years are men. Some of the great painters were George Leykauf who was a famous artist along with Franz Bischoff and Franz Aulich.
