Instructions

I try to learn something new every winter while I am quilting. This year I tried painting, then machine embroidery, then quilting.

I did take the painting class at Craftsy and learned so much about what paints to buy, brushes, techniques etc.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Casual

Materials

acrylic paints, embroidery threads, batiks, cottons

What was your inspiration?

I have wanted to try fabric painting but am not an artist! While watching the fabric painting class on Craftsy I learned what to use for paints, where to buy them, techniques. This quilt was something that I had in the back of my mind for a long time - love the different carousel horses.

What are you most proud of?

Learning something new - last winter I learned paper piecing -

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have a general idea where you are going with your project. Start with block sizes, on point or not, etc. Look at your stash to see if you have an interesting piece for inspiration. The batik I used for the blocks gave me an idea as to what colors to paint the different horses. Not sure if I like the black border - but can always change it out later.
