What materials did you use? Hand-dyed quilting cotton, cotton flannel backing, polyester satin bias-cut edging, silver viscose rayon thread.

What are you most proud of? I did all of this with a walking foot because my machine seems to hate the free-motion thing, but I still wanted to get some motion into the stitches. I love the way my dyed fabrics came out, especially since it was my first time dyeing fabric with a very specific result in mind, and I was able to successfully translate my ideas into reality. The wood texture and color of the boat cloth is my favorite, and I hope to replicate it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? The three things I would do differently would be: make border darker, use heat-n-bond only on the outer 1/4" of the applique sun, and make the scale of the quilting more consistent throughout the piece (close quilting on the boat and sail, wide quilting elsewhere.) All in all, I'm very proud.
