What was your inspiration?
M son watched Captain America-The First Avenger, then he watched The Avengers, and fell in love with the Marvel Men. (He's not the only one!) He wanted to be Captain America this Halloween, so I spent the better part of this month working on his costume.
What are you most proud of?
I think the most rewarding part of this project was the shield. He helped make the shield and was happily throwing it around at the park the other day, to make sure it will fly. That was the most rewarding part of making the costume. His happy face as he threw the shield!
I've made most of my kid's costumes over the years, and now they don't ever want a store bought costume again. One year, when I didn't have time to make one, my son had bought a ninja costume... Now he looks back at it and feels sad for the neighborhood kids who don't have sewing moms to make them a costume. :)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Give yourself LOTS of time. And collect lots of good pictures. If you can find something to keep your child working with you, do so... they will appreciate your hard work even more. I'm hoping someday to work up to making an iron man costume with my son.
