Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Men

Style: Retro / Vintage, Casual

Materials

Vintage fabric from my stash

What was your inspiration?

My hubby has a thing for vintage men's shirts. When I found this groovy 70s pattern on Etsy, it was fate!

What are you most proud of?

I've never made a men's shirt before and I was really impressed with the tailoring and finishing instructions that were included with this pattern. It fits pretty well considering it was my first run at it. My hubby wears this shirt all the time and says he loves it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is a great pattern. If you can find one, I can't recommend it enough!

oh my I wish I had found this site before I made a cowboy shirt for my beau for his birthday. It turned out pretty darn well seeming how I made the pattern from his favorite shirt, the armpits are a little tight and now I want to let them loose and I feel so lost as to where to go. Your shirt turned out so so well! I am impressed, they are not an easy thing to build. Great job!

Thanks! Sounds like your guy might have broad shoulders (creating the tight armpit area). I ran into the same issue with this shirt. I later altered the pattern to fix this issue. You can slash and spread the pattern to increase the width in the shoulders. Check out the illustration for broad shoulders on this page: http://aces.nmsu.edu/pubs/_c/c-228.html
