Grandma's Dresdens in pieces

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic

What was your inspiration?

My grandma did the hard part of this quilt and hand-pieced the dresden plates back in the 50s or 60s. They were originally on a pink background the same as in the center but she never put the blocks together because she didn't like the overwhelming pink. I've re-appliqued them onto the cream and now I'm getting ready to quilt it. I'm doing it in smaller sections because of some of the quilting I want to do with a walking foot that would be difficult manouvering a whole quilt. I'm also going to add some borders once the center is done.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Spray basting is awesome. This is the first project I've done with spray baste and I'm never going back to pins.

I love the dresden plate pattens. What a treasure to finish a quilt that your gramma started so many years ago. I would cherish that one forever. Great idea to quilt it in sections, I have never tried that (yet).
