Instructions

I made this quilt from a very old pattern that my husband's grandmother had. One of his sisters had it and let me use it. The butterflies are pieced, not appliqued. I updated the pattern look by using modern print and batik fabrics. The piecing was a challenge as I was working from very old templates whose sizes were not true any longer.

What was your inspiration?

I saw a quilt that one of my husband's sister had made from this antique pattern and wanted to make one for myself.

What are you most proud of?

Even though a close inspection will show that the piecing is a long way from perfect, the overall look turned out stunning.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sometimes it is a good thing to update old patterns with new look fabrics.

This is certainly an eye catcher. It lends itself to lots of different patterns and batiks sure do it justice. I can see you worked long and hard on this quilt. Watch out for thieves who lust for your quilt.
