The photos are lovely. I've generally found that black knitting is very difficult to photograph, it seems to absorb the light and the stitches don't pop...or else any lint or hairs that I didn't see before taking the photo will suddenly spring into life in the picture. Charcoal grey is a bit easier to photograph.

I'm having a hard time photographing this shawl. I started off in front of a white background but all the photos were either really dark or totally bleached out. I added in this blue background but it seems like the shawl is still a little blurry. Is is because it is such a dark color? I'm playing the model and photographer using the self timer, so I am trying to still get the camera to focus on me instead of the background.

Because its a dark shawl, you will probably have to adjust your exposure a little bit. Look in your manual for exposure compensation to find the exact buttons to use. I'd also step away from the background a little bit. That will allow the light to wrap around the back of you and the shawl for more definition. It's a gorgeous shawl! I live it in that yarn colour.
