This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Amigurumi: Design Your Own Monster »

Instructions

This is my own design, using the tools and information I learned from taking this course. The bird is 31 inches from the top of his head, to the tip of his tail. I have made extensive notes of the project, and will need to write them into a legible pattern.

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Whimsical, Cute

Materials

Yarn, 1 skein each: For the Macaw - of Red Heart Super Saver in each of the following colors: Cherry Red, Blue, Bright Yellow, and White. Patton's Gray Marl, Vanna's Choice Black. Size 18 owl safety eyes. For the branch - Red Heart Super Saver Green, and Brown. A 3/4"craft dowel, 12" long , a key ring and red jewelry wire.

What was your inspiration?

A nearby restaurant displays all sorts of artificial parrots, macaws, and other exotic birds throughout the building, None are made of yarn. While dining there, I was telling my husband I needed to design a monster for the Craftsy class. He suggested I make a parrot. Sounded like a wonderful challenge to me. I will present this bird to the owner. Dare I hope that it will end up on display in the restaurant??

What are you most proud of?

This bird turned out exactly as I had envisioned. The wings were made 3 different times, changing size, color, and order of stripes, and the tail was a real challenge to get right, but it finally ended up as I had hoped.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Patience, and experience in crocheting amigurumi. It will not be a speedy project, and requires assembling the macaw and branch with wire.

WOW & OMG! He is amazing :)) Please, please, please when you;ve got your pattern finished, as a parrot lover & owner I would be the first to buy it. I'll be the first to admit, I haven't seen one crocheted nearly as good as you've done Google xx

Hi. I went a little crazy with designing my second monster. He's not much of a monster at all, but I love him just the same. Hope you like him too.

Designing and making this bird was a lot of fun. Although I've become attached to him, he will be going to his new home tomorrow!
