Goodbye Bra Shopping!

Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
40's Style French Bra Pattern Depew 2014 »

Instructions

Play around with the bust darts to get a custom fit, and don't forget to make a muslin or two! Never forget to put lace on it too! I also added fusible interfacing on the bands of the bra, just to give it a little extra structure.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton, lace, fusible interfacing, thread, buttons, ribbon.

What was your inspiration?

I've been eyeing this pattern ever since Mrs. Depew released it, and the final. long, agonizing death of my last store-brought bra created the need for new ones. I had this lavendar cotton hanging around in my stash and thought it would be perfect to try this pattern out with before cutting into my satin-y fabric.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of being able to alter the pattern and add one extra bust dart to get the cup to be more molded to my shape.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Definitely make a muslin or two - this bra uses so little fabric and has only a few main seams, there's no excuse for not making one to get a good fit. And don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Depew with your questions - she was very helpful in answering all of mine.

I used cotton broadcloth for the entire bra, layering the lace over the outer cup.
