What was your inspiration?

Sometimes you look for fabric to make a certain quilt, and sometimes the fabric you find dictates the quilt you make. I wanted to make a quilt for my father in law, an avid golfer, and found this wonderful "golf course" fabric, with coordinating golf ball fabric. I wanted to really feature the golf course fabric, so I fussy cut various scenes in 12" squares, and alternated with the 9 patch blocks to create a simple Irish chain.

What are you most proud of?

This was probably the 4th or 5th quilt I quilted on my machine frame, so I was still learning (actually, 5 years later, I'm still learning :-) - so it was challenging quilting the large blocks - I wanted to outline quilt a lot of the scenery so it would "pop", which meant a lot of stopping and starting. But I am really proud of the final result, and my father in law loved his quilt - which is always the goal!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Let the fabric take you wherever it wants you to go.

Sound advice for sure. My quilts too lead me where they want to go. That's why it necessary to shop often, it's soothing just to touch the fabric. There's nothing wrong with being an optimistic fabric-holic, lots of people benefit--and it keeps you out of the bars.
