Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Art of Cloth Dyeing »

Instructions

Photos of items wrapped and then the finished product. First dye bath was golden yellow, then purple #1

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Other

Style: Funky

Materials

100% rayon fabric, dyed with golden yellow Procion. Banded with rubber bands and glass marbles in areas. Then overdyed with purple, also used rubber bands and glass marbles

What are you most proud of?

I like the way that the yellow comes through with the purple. Also the mixing of the yellow/purple to create the brownish color

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be careful when taking the rubber bands off the wet rayon fabric, it is fragile when it is wet and it will tear easily.

Gorgeous! I have used beans with ponytail holders but never thought of marbles. I, too, love the color combination. Do you use Procion MX dyes?

I really like the colors combination. The effect using the elastic pony tail holders :) turned out very well.

Yes but the small black pony tail holders are very hard to get off the wet fabric with your gloves on. I keep my gloves on all the time when dyeing. My skin is pretty sensitive to all the stuff being used.
