I fist noticed your girl scout cupcakes as I was looking for ideas for an Eagle Ceremony for the Boy Scouts. However the blue uniform threw me as only Boy Scouts use blue here. Then, I decided to look at your other cakes and I spotted the Union Jack. Ahhh! NOW I know why there are blue uniforms but pictures of girls. A local troop is using my church for an Eagle Scout ceremoney this weekend and are borrowing some other items of mine. I thought how nice it would be if the next time they have a ceremony I donate a special cake or cupcakes for them. I'm not sure if other countries have the Eagle Scout award in thier equivilant of the Scouts or not. From my brother earning this about 30 years ago I know the effort that must be put into being an Eagle Scout. There are many additional requirements they must achieve above the normal level. Most don't achieve this until they are well into their teen years but it must be completed before they turn 18 years old. My brother was also tapped out as an Order of the Arrow which is an even higher honor above the Eagle Scout and no scout can "work towards this honor", he must be "tapped out" or awarded this by adult officers and it is always a surprise for the scout. Now to the Union Jack Cake. I think it's terrific looking. You're right about having enough time. Quality work takes time no matter what it is you're working on. I was surprised when I saw the writing of "God Save Lucile" on the cake. Is this something that's often done in replacing the word Queen or King for a private individual? Is it a generally accepted practice? Obviously I wouldn't imagine this would be done for something public but I didn't know if people do it alot in private. As I know several Brits here in the States this might be a nice idea for a birthday cake for them as long as people don't have a problem with their name being substituted for the Queen. Otherwise I think it's a very creative idea. I'm trying to picture basically the same concept being done with the American flag. I don't know about a private birthday but I can definitely see it as a 4th of July cake with the words written across the top, "God Bless the USA" as we have a very special song with those words someone wrote and recorded during the first gulf war that was (WOW) just about 25 years ago now.
