What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was an Easter dress I was making for my youngest daughter, and finding a way to let friends and family know that when things are hard someone is praying for them and cares. What better way to achieve both, than a prayer shawl that can be worn with a Easter outfit in the Spring, and yet comfort friends and family all year long.
What are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of how delicate it looks considering I used a pretty low-cost yarn and heavy yarn to make it.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
It is really a simple shell stitch with a decrease at each end of the row on every row. I always start at the widest end with a basic chain stitch and then do a double crochet back to the beginning. After that it was shell stich (5 double crochets in one stich, and then chain 2 skipping over the next stich to do another shell stitch in the following stitch. I just repeated this over and over for each row decreasing by one stitch at each end. I changed yarns on the8th row, 11th row, 17th row, 19th row, and 22nd row. After I finished it down to a single shell on the bottom, I took the variagated yarn and used it to edge the whole thing by double crocheting. I took my leftover yarn of a pale pink skein I had to cut into 8 inch lengths to tie on the two sides as fringe.
