What was your inspiration?
I thought that many of the whimsical creations I've seen recently were a good use of coordinating fabrics, and I started by making a few shorter dresses for grandkids and to sell. When I saw this pattern, I thought it was adorable, and especially liked the bodice and sleeves, making it suitable for most of the year.
The best part about creating these dresses is selecting the fabrics. The pattern is easy but time consuming, so if you try this, allow plenty of time.
What are you most proud of?
I work on 4 or 5 dresses at a time, so finishing all of them is always satisfying. I like this pattern so much, I plan to make more in various sizes.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
There's a lot of gathering involved, so decide on the best method. Reduce the bulk in the slip before attaching to the skirt to gather. I also found that the pattern for the slip ruffle makes a lot of ruffle ! You could cut this by 1/3 and still have a full ruffle.
I hand stitched the bands to the bodice, so the stitches would be invisible.
Have fun !
