Ginny's Blue Jeans Icelandic Sweater

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Top-Down Icelandic Sweater »

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Traditional

Materials

Lettlopi

What was your inspiration?

There are so many luscious colors of Lettlopi yarn that it was hard to choose. Then I realized how much time I spend in jeans and I knew exactly which colors I wanted to use.

What are you most proud of?

I wanted to use more colors in the yoke so I broke the pattern up into smaller sections and used 5 colors - white, ash, heaven blue, lapis blue and navy. I especially like the subtle change between the white and ash because it shows the contrast of the darker colors well while adding a bit of interest..

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The hardest part for me was reading the chart. I haven't made a multi color pattern since the 80's and the prescription in my glasses has increased over the years. To make it easier I printed out the chart and wrote the colors to be used in each box using just 1 or 2 capital letters so I could read them easily.

The other advice I would give is to check each row for accuracy before going on to the next row. It's a lot easier to take out 1 row than several.

Thanks so much Linda. I pretty much live in my jeans so it was a goodx choice for me. I've gotten a lot done since the photo. I really need to get in gear and finish it.

I also love these colors, I am thinking of making this as a pullover instead of a cardigan (for my 2nd one), I hope you don't mind but I think I'd like to do something similar to what you have done here. It just "pops" so much...

You have used four colours as well - it increases the potential of the yoke pattern hugely, doesn't it? Lovely work - your cardi will look great with jeans.

I love your color choice!!! The decision on colors was the hardest for me. I chose to order yarn from Iceland which has taken almost 4 wks to finally get to my home!!It arrived yesterday so now I will begin my sweater and only hope my color choice will come out as good as yours.

I agree with your decision to add the slightly contrasting color, Ash. It adds sophistication to this grouping of colors. Beautiful job!
