Machine Quilting Negative Space »

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Retro / Vintage, Funky, Cute, Casual, Traditional, Classic

Materials

cotton fabric

What was your inspiration?

I purchased Angela's book, Free Motion Quilting, then took the Craftsy course, just after I finished piecing this quilt top. It seemed like the perfect project to try some of Angela's FMQ designs.

What are you most proud of?

There were many "firsts" for me with this quilt. I created (or super-sized, rather) the quilt block and wrote up a tutorial (see elvycrafts.blogspot.com), and then really branched out by trying Angela's quilting designs.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The piecing part was easy, probably a beginner level quilt. For the quilting, be patient and don't despair -- it will look great when everything is put together -- even if some of the individual quilting elements aren't quite perfect. I think that's a theme that Angela repeated throughout the online course, and I took that to heart.

this quilt is gorgeous! What a terrific job you have done--you must be fearless to "go for it" on an actual quilt! I have just practiced on scraps so far...
