Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Casual, Cute, Classic, Military, Whimsical, Outdoorsy, Funky

Materials

Cake, icing, fondant, mini oreo cookies, waffer cookie straws & a G.I.Joe (keepsake toy)

What was your inspiration?

When a birthday boy loves G.I.Joe - what better than to give him a tank! This was a really fun cake to do becuase most of the fondant cuts I needed to make were all straight edges! no oddball curves or funny ridges to get around so I loved it! Not to mention that it was really fun thinking of different edible items for the tank shaft & "wheels" on a tank. I make those from the cookie isle of the store - yep, found that a waffer cookie straw was a perfect size to be the tank "gun shaft" and I was able to use the 100 calorie pack mini oreo cookies as the wheels) He loved it!

What are you most proud of?

I really liked the entire thing when it was all said and done - really fun one!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sometimes you can save money mby making things your self (i.e. cookies, fondant, icing) BUT, there are times that just work out better if you can find the exact item you need (lets say down the cookie isle) and you just buy them instead of using up several hours of the day try to make it yourself.....not awlways, but in some cases wigh your options with your time/money.
