The focal piece in this wire-wrapped necklace is a piece of broken glass plate that I found out in the desert in Nevada. I sanded the edges so nothing sharp remains. I wire wrapped it in a mix of metals, copper wire, darker copper chain, gold wire and antique gold clasp, and I think it turned out really well. The contrast is very pretty. I love the idea of upcycling a piece of broken rubble to create a beautiful piece of jewelry!

What was your inspiration?

The piece of glass just looked like a pendant already so using it that way was really a no-brainer. Since it was a piece of an old broken plate I thought using the mixture of metals would give it an 'old' feeling and I love the way it turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use what ever you have as your focal piece. Any pendant that you have can be incorporated into the necklace. And, as you can see, it's ok to mix metals! If you want to use copper and silver, or gold and brass...it's all ok! The diversity is what will make your jewelry special.
