What was your inspiration?

We have the most beautiful hibiscus plants. This is a photo of a partial, gorgeous yelow hibiscus.

What are you most proud of?

The outline of the hibiscus is continued with beautiful free motion quilting. This piece won Honorable Mention at the Broward Quilt Expo, 2011.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use the full size quilting guide. Trace the quilting lines onto tracing paper. Don't forget to draw a frame around the design to aid in placement on top of your piece. Pin the tracing paper to the quilt sandwich. Free motion quilt the lines. Done!

If you are in the South Florida area, Mo (Judy) will be the guest lecturer at the Csquiltguild Coral Springs Quilters guild meeting on Wednesday July 27th 2011 at 7pm. Checkout the Coral Springs Quilters Facebook page for details. I'm looking forward to her Digital Art Quilt lecture and workshop!

How do you transfer photos to material, for a quilt; I'm just a beginner? I would love to do that. I also wonder if you can wash quilts, especially the one's with a photo. I've always heard you can not wash any quilts?

The image is printed directly on a fabric sheet made especially to go thru your printer. The image is washable if you use these sheets. New quilts wash very well, but I wouldn't wash vintage or antique quilts. There is lots of info on the internet on how to care for quilts. with l

you can go to my blog:http://carolynscanvas.blogspot.com/2011/04/making-photo-quilt.html -this will show you how to prepare your fabric, then print in your inkjet printer. They are washable, I have washed some squares several times to test. You do need to treat them as any fabric, keep out of direct sunlight, any questions, contact me through my link and good luck, they are a joy to have and to give
