Garden Fish

Pattern Info

This project was designed by mimis quilts.
Info can be found at:

no name

Instructions

I just made up the design based on the charm squares then put in fishy fabric the size of the squares sewn together where I thought they looked good. The jade is half a square and for punch. Border is Liberty fabric paisley. As you see this is only the start and I need to quilt it yet

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Funky, Casual, Whimsical

Materials

Kaffe Fassett "fire" charm pac and a yard of Fishy fabric from Kaffe collective.

What was your inspiration?

the fish fabric. I wanted to use it but not make it totally dominant. The charm squares came on sale through craftsy and when i opened them I saw some squares of the fish line so I just went with it till I had a look I liked.

What are you most proud of?

that I like it and it makes me smile when I see it

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

have fun and whatever you do chart your design on graph paper first so you have some "plan'

Hi mimisquilt - I hope you catch this message as it is the only w y I knew to reach you. This is a gorgeous mix. Kaffee does it again, right? What I wanted to tell you though was I did finally post a couple of pix. I sort of went in the "back way" by accident, so if you go to the class for Amy, click on "talk" and on the left click on "craftsy platform", there is a conversation started about posting pictures. I did this today, 5/18/12. There I am -- heaven knows if it will show up anywhere else. Please let me know if you cannot find it. Thanks. And keep up your amazing work.

Hi Surfside, I looked at your blocks-very nice and they will make a great whole quilt. And again thanks for all your nice words of encouragment. I am now trying to quilt things myself. Worked on a flannel fun quilt just for myself and have come to the conclusion that I will need tons of practice to get the machine quilting looking nice!! ha.

I just noticed you bought the charm squares from Craftsy. I didn't know they sold anything other than patterns. Looked under the "Deals" tab and found a few charm packs. Is that the only place they sell fabric? And do you get any kind of notice via email on things they have for sale? Thanks in advance!

You found the place. I get the notices via my email but cant remember when that started -after I bought or by asking to be notified. the deals are pretty good, at least for me in Canada because our fabrics are just soooo expensive.

I drool over some of them, also, but the shipping kills me!

I just LOVE this!!! It makes me feel like home. I grew up in southern Florida and have family in the Florida Keys. My cousin and I used to catch tropical fish to sell to a local guy who shipped them all over. I've always loved their bright colors and wished I had a salf water aquarium. If I can find this fabric I just have to make one too. How many charm packs did you use? Thanks so much for sharing. It's just gorgeous - one of the best things I've seen on Craftsy.

Thank you so very much. I have a sister living in Florida. the fabric is Brandon Mably's new spring line(for the fish) and I used about 4 charm pacs- only because I picked out only the red ones. I have enough left to make another in either yellow or a combination of red and yellow.

I really love the colors....in fact you used Westminter Fibers 'Gone Fishing' fabric...I know because I have some of it and just can't wait to use it. I bought it not knowing what I was going to make but loved it!
