House In the Valley Project

House In the Valley Project

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Hand-Stitched Collage Quilts »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Batik fabrics, quilt batting, fusible web, embroidery threads

What was your inspiration?

This is the quilt based on the instructor's pattern. I'm really inspired by this technique and can't wait to try my own ideas for theme and composition.

What are you most proud of?

I started and finished this art quilt in less than 2.5 days, and it wasn't the only thing I worked on during that time period.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The embroidery work through fused fabric is tough on the fingers...I wish I knew how to use a thimble better. Now, I'll need to give my thumb on my right hand a rest...

I like how atmospheric this is! I particularly like your embroidery on the house and the tree top, and how they both stand out against the sky. I'm sad to hear the embroidery through fused fabric is so tough on the fingers thought :-( You did a great job of it even so!

The stitchery is fantastic! I especially like those on the front door and the flowers. Thanks for sharing!

I'd like to take credit for the front door and flower stitchery - but there is a gold line pattern in the batik fabric that I selected, and so it worked well in the door and flowers to add some extra detail! Laura, I love your technique and teaching style - it's really inspired me to try some more fused art quilts.

Thank-you. The sky/clouds one is a Debbie Mumm for SSI, and I can't even remember where I bought it.
