Materials

I used techniques learned in Stitch & Slash Class with Carol Ann Waugh to make my own fancy fabric out of five layers of fabric. Fun class with Carol. Made a zipped bag to store/carry my Kindle. I like to listen to books while I travel.

What was your inspiration?

Well, that's an easy question . . . Carol Ann Waugh was my inspiration. She makes it clear from the beginning there are no mistakes!! I like her style of teaching, and encouraging us to take risk with color.

I used some left over Christmas fabric hidden in the middle of the fabric layers.

What are you most proud of?

Carol,

I started out with 4 layers of fabric, and soon found one more way to add a pop of color. In many areas I cut through all four layers-- so I could slip a 5th fabric on the bottom, just to get a look see. I was really shocked to see the bright pink candy fabric won out. I attached the pink fabric on the bottom, then put on my quilting foot and stitched the devil out of it.

I was pleased with the finished funky fabric and made a zippered bag to hold my Kindle. I lined the bag and added a small pocket in the liner to hold my earphone buds. Perfect! I love it. One day project! I had so much fun I'll make another one tomorrow.

Thanks Carol Ann. I had a great time.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be sure to sign up for this fun class. I discovered, the more I slashed the better it looked. Wow--this was really fun.

Love the idea of adding touches of color with an extra layer - I think I may need to do this with my first project as I am not too happy with the lower layer I have been left with!

My Next Stitch & Slash Fabric Project will be a big shopping tote, with 2 "bottomless" pockets inside to carry a liter of soda and/or other tall liquid items I want to separate and keep from smashing other softer grocery items--if you know what I mean.
