What materials did you use? Panama (called mechanical panama) Bar Code 9314935126622 from Spotlight (Australia). 150cms wide, which is a heavy weight 100% poly. Also 100%poly with a very fine square print to make an 8inch cross covering the whole length and width. The Pall measured 8ft x10ft. I had no idea where to start so I made it up as I went along For the embroidery I found a cross from Embroidery Library . It is an Art Nouveau Cross Product ID C9577. The measurements are 4.86" x 5.12". Because of the stitch density, I increased the design 12%. The surrounding stitches came at random from the Decorative stitches on my sewing machine. (what seemed to look better at the time). Instead of using lace or some sort of braid around the exterior of the pall, I again used a stitch from the machine which blended in well yet looked sort of classic. Father requested no lace. The corners were slightly curved, so as not to hit the floor. I visited a local funeral establishment so as I could fit and make alterations with the help of an empty coffin. (casket).

What are you most proud of? The fact that Father was happy with the finished Pall.. It has already been used for the first Funeral Mass in the new Church. THIS PROJECT WAS ACCOMPLISHED ON A VERY TIGHT BUDGET.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I spent hours searching on the web re fabrics and especially Brocades.I did find that Vogue Fabrics in the USA had a reasonable range of Church Brocades etc. and I obtained a swatch from them. Price wise I found they were reasonable, although I did not end up purchasing from there, as time was against me. If I ever had to make another, that is where I would purchase from. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN MAKING A FUNERAL PALL I FOUND THIS LINK ON THE WEB THAT MAY BE OF BENEFIT. REQUIM MASS PALL-MICHELE QUIGLEY. also michelequigley.com/blog/requim-mass-pall/

Thanks for sharing. I am thinking about doing a pall with hand embroidered accents.

Would love to see your work. My mum used to do some beautiful hand embroidery but unfortunately I never inherited her wonderful gift.
