What are you most proud of? My inspiration was an embroidery design published in Creative Machine Embroidery Magazine, September/October 2014, pages. 34-5, for the Autumnal Applique throw. I loved the design but thought it would be too dense to try to embroider over my knitted project, so I adapted the design for my kerchief. I think it came out adorable.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? After knitting up the kerchief according to my "Easy Snowman Neck Scarf/Cowl" pattern, hand wash it in hot water and agitate it a bit to lightly felt it, then run it through a spin cycle on your washing machine, then put it in the dryer under the hot setting until damp dry. Then block it dry. Once dry, you can go ahead and needle felt the tree and fall foliage (The Easy Snowman design includes a color photo tutorial on needle felting). After that, make 6 simple hexagons. I used six 5-inch squares of cotton Batik fabric to make 4 1/2 inch circles. To make quick and easy hexagons, I followed Julia C. Wood's wonderful technique, which I learned while watching "Quilting Arts" on my PBS station. This is from Series 1300, Project 1308-2. You can find instructions on Quilting Arts TV's website. After placing the appliques, I used craft floss to hand sew them on.
