Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Instructions

This was my first ever project on a serger and there was a moment when I was ready to pack the machine up and return it! If you get to that point, then stop, take a break (I had a Cosmopolitan) and try again.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Holiday, Cute, Whimsical

Materials

100% cotton quilt weight fabrics and standard serger thread.

What was your inspiration?

I have wanted a silly, frilly apron for years! This class was the perfect excuse to finally get one.

What are you most proud of?

I'm pretty sure the total for the supplies was about $5. I saw a similar Christmas apron at a big-box store that was marked down to about $15 and mine is WAY CUTER!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If this is your first project on a serger, be patient! I had serious problems with the threading and it took me 3-4 hours to get it to work properly.

I'm so glad you persevered and marched forward to finish your project (yes, I agree that Cosmopolitans always help sewing frustrations). It is SO CUTE! Now I want to go buy Christmas fabric and make one to match!
