Instead of making the basic friendship star, I have 8 half-square triangles and 1 solid square for each of my 20 blocks.
I got this quilt machine-quilted by Missiouri Star Quilt Co (because I am TEH LAZY) using the Old Oaky pattern.
Here's some additional instructions for making this quilt:
1) pull out 20 squares (or however many blocks you want) from your patterned charm packs - these will be the center of your stars.
2) You'll need to pair 4 dark/patterned squares with 4 white squares for each block, which will make 8 half square triangles (using the easy sandwich method from the pattern link). Mine has 20 blocks, so that meant 80 dark squares and 80 white squares.
3) Match color ways of your half-square triangles with the solid squares you pulled out in step 1, lay out your blocks and sew them together.
4) I extended the ribbons onto the border with half-square triangles using some extra white and green fabric.
I think if I do this again I'd use charm packs that have only really dark colors, so the white ribbons stand out more..Instead of making the basic friendship star, I have 8 half-square triangles and 1 solid square for each of my 20 blocks.

What are you most proud of?
I really like the black binding; I'm glad I did that instead of just green.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
making the half-square triangles is pretty tedious, especially if you take the time to square them all up... If you're using yardage instead of charm packs, I'd definitely recommend using the quick pinwheels method found in the Quilting Quickly 1 craftsy course.
