Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

Just enjoy, no rules, this would be a perfect project for a young or new sewer.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky, Mod, Casual

Materials

Learned new technique on BOM with Amy. I did not mark squares, just grabbed my blocks and the unused strips. Backing is flannel and it was wrapped to front forming binding.

What was your inspiration?

Wanted to use up scraps of material. This seemed like the perfect project to do so.

What are you most proud of?

Finishing it! I plan to make another one real soon.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just do it, cut your blocks out and then put those scraps in a bag and enjoy sewing. My lap size is 15 total blocks, a lap size. I did not add batting and used flannel for the backing. To quilt I used decorative stiches, just practice effect of differnt stiches. I also used different threads, some varigated. I think this type of quilt is vey forgiving.

Lap size sounds a good idea, full size sounds a bit too daunting just yet, Jojacks.

This is an easy size to finish. Good luck, you could finish in a few weeks, just do a little each day or so.

Love the on point setting, colors, and sashing

Actually the on point and sashing is an illusion created by the foundation pattern. It really is all square.. Thank you for your comments

This is very pretty. I've been trying to decide if I should try to use scraps or buy a fresh palette. I think I will have to take a look at what I have. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love it! I'm thinking of making one for my granddaughter for Christmas in pinks. I couldn't see the stitching in the other picture.

The stiches did not show up well in my pictures, just used decorative stiches on my sewjng machine and also different type of threads. Good luck, this style would be prettr in pink!

Fun, fun, fun! I may try some of the stitching settings I've yet to venture out on since I haven't even applique'd yet! Inspiring to see how an 'experiment' came out so nicely =)

MarjorieV we're thinking the same way. I suggested to craftsy that they add a photography class since we all are posting pics of our work. They are already on top of it! So maybe we'll BOTH be doing that class together! :D
