Fossilized

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Outdoorsy, Casual, Ethnic, Hipster, Funky

Materials

Ammonite fossil, flat-backed shell bead, faceted dragon blood jasper beads, copper sheet, copper tube, assorted copper beads, stringing wire and crimp beads.

What was your inspiration?

I bought this fossil at a science surplus store because I liked its swirly shell pattern. Rather than tucking it away in a drawer somewhere, I decided to make a keepsake necklace.

What are you most proud of?

This was my first attempt at making a bezel from sheet metal.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

When soldering the bezel, wrap bailing wire around the piece to keep the bezel wire snug against the sheet metal. Mine kept moving as the solder started to flow.

Because it is such a lightweight piece, I used epoxy.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art! I so admire your talent. I am curious: how is the flat-backed shell bead attached?
