Football / Soccer Birthday Cake

Football Cake

Close up of worm
Football Cake
My eldest son with his cake!
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Boys

Materials

Madeira Sponge for the football, Chocolate cake for the base, Satin Ice Fondant, colors etc.

What was your inspiration?

My son's joint birthday party. Wanted to have a go at making a ball cake.

What are you most proud of?

That the ball came out so well and.... dare I say it... it was really easy to make and decorate! Next time round I would buy the Kit Box cutters for the hexagons and pentagons just to make it quicker. Only thing is that it's Madeira sponge and is pretty tough. But then the base is chocolate cake so we will cut and serve that.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Feel free to ask any questions in the comment box. Also check out the online tutorials for making these - some on Youtube.

Yes. I think Wilton make one. I bought mine on eBay. Was just a cheapie one as I didn't know whether or not I wanted to make one again. As it turns out the pan was great and I didn't need to pay the Wilton tax ;o)

... and the lovely thing is you can slap the fondant on the football really fast as the ball looks better if the leather looks a little 'weathered'
