Fondant Frills »

Instructions

I loved making this. Thank you, Maggie & Craftsy, for the class. I'm so excited about this technique.

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Romantic

Materials

Fondant

What was your inspiration?

Maggie's beautiful work.

What are you most proud of?

The color variation and that it came out as it did on a first run.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have a great time with it. Maggie says to embrace the imperfections, the holes and strange things that occur. It is so very true- take that advice to heart. If you go with it- it becomes art. Let your self go.

I love the blush too!! Any idea how many hours it took you to make the cake (primarily the ruffles.) How many layers of ruffles on each tier- did you count?

Reply to this comment...I didn't count the layers. I just started in and kept going. However, I think we can figure it out... 9 shades of peach with 3 to 4 rows of each shade. It was my first larger cake and it was a 6" tall 10" with a 6" on top. Being the first , I wasn't

Being he first I didn't really get my stride till half way through. This one took me 11 hours to frill. The next will be much less. I was so surprised how forgiving and allowing the technique is. Thicker, thinner,

I loved learning this technique. Thank you, Maggie and Craftsy. I cant wait to make more! It is beautiful yet to my eye almost looks like its missing something in the overall final finish up close and in person- it feels too matte. Any suggestions? Would you dust and steam the entire cake- or artistically placed sections and areas?

This is where you get to take the technique and make it your own. I don't typically steam frills- too risky for me with the humidity. But it may be fun for you to try as an experiment.

Maggie- Im not so certain steaming is the right thing. I guess the question is- do yours have a matte look to them up close and in person? Do you leave them as they are with exception of the edging? Its kind of like a gumpaste flower before giving it dust and steam. Yours just seem to have this something extra in the photos. Just wondering if yours are matte as well.
