Fondant Frills

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Fondant Frills »

Instructions

When doing this project in a humid climate I STRONGLY recommend that you use Tylose in your fondant and do it ahead of time (like the day before) the base cake was done the day before and that held up beautifully however the top cake was done 2 1/2 hours before the event and the frills only lasted 2 hours :) good luck.

What was your inspiration?

Maggie Austin was my inspiration :) she made a beautiful cake and shared it with us, thanks Maggie its an awesome design and class :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Prepare your Tylose 2 days before, gumpaste at least 4 days before and make sure your flowers have enough time to dry. Make sure to add enough cornstarch so that your card board doesnt stick, most importantly have fun its a wonderful design and lots of fun :)

By the way Maggie these frills were hand rolled as I do not own a pasta attachment nor a hand cranked one :) I think the perfectionist in me just wanted to make sure they were thin enough to frill. Thanks again for your wonderful class and your generosity in sharing your trade secret :) be blessed.

In a humid climate make sure to add Tylose to your fondant and do the cakes the day before to make sure the frills have ample time to dry :)

Hey all I really wanted to try this design as it was a challenge for the climate in which i live in :) here are a few tips ive learned in doing this. Add tylose to your fondant and most importantly do it the night before to give the frill enough time to dry upside down dont worry you will still be able to frill out the cake but at least it will hold up. I have before and after pics of this cake to show the difference but im not sure how to post them with out all the info :) be blessed all and have fun its a wonderful WONDERFUL class :) thanks Maggie.
