This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Top-Down Icelandic Sweater »

Instructions

Modifications: Cast on more stitches for wider neck; omitted garter ridge after ribbing; worked in rows, not rounds; and started sleeve decreases after 2". Unable to crochet tightly enough to match row gauge, so crocheted in 3 out of 4 rows to make front bands.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Classic

Materials

Lite-Lopi colors from stash: pale gray 0054, medium gray 0057, and heather black 0005.

What was your inspiration?

Used yarn from a half-finished sweater, and I love those neutral colors with this design.

What are you most proud of?

That I finished it, and it fits!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The details that Ragga shows offer many options for personalizing the sweater. This was a fun and interesting class!

I would love to make this for myself but I haven't seen a pattern that is for a 52 inch bust.

tutleymutley: With my knitting, the neck looked smaller than the sample, so I ripped it back and cast on the number of stitches shown for the first increase. Then I did not work that increase.

How did you get such a lovely wide round neck? Mine (not finished yet) looks much smaller (and I took my original cast on out and started over using larger size needle).

This is such a beautiful sweater! I really want to try knitting sweaters, but don't know which pattern styles are the best to pick for a first go at it. I just learned how to knit, have completed 5 pairs of socks and a lace scarf. But this is what really draws my attention. Your work is so lovely. Your stitches are very nice also. I like the soft grey of this sweater, it will go with most other colors nicely. Beautiful Job!

I think you should go for it. If you can handle lace and socks you can probably make this sweater. Just take extra care using the charts and use a row marker so you dont' lose your place.

Thanks. Laurie Grace, I have started a dark denim blue and white cardigan with more modifications than the gray one. I just am using the two colors since I could not find a contrasting color that pleased me.

Absolutely gorgeous! Now, I'm not so sure about my chosen colours which I've ordered but aren't here yet. Hope they will look just as good. I chose Ocean (kind of a dark, denim blue) with white for the second colour. I haven't chosen a third accent color as I couldn't decide. I might just use the white and not use a pop colour. Will know better when I have the yarn in my hands.

Thanks! The yarn is unraveled from a half-finished sweater. I was looking for a different pattern for that Lite-Lopi when I fell in love with this design. Fortunately, it looks like I will have just enough yarn for this cardigan.
