Materials

Soft Navy Blue Chennile Upholstery Fabric Exterior, (free motion quilting two toned blue zebra cotton print, batting, and exterior fabric). Padded interior drop pocket. Features: Zippered front pocket with flying geese block accents.

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired to make "one seam flying geese" blocks, after seeing a video demonstration by Ricky Timms . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Mu0C_QL8Y

What are you most proud of?

The soft Navy Blue upholstery fabric is a great choice for the colorful flying geese blocks.

I used multi color thread to add decorative free motion stitches (circles, spikes and triangles) to attach flying geese blocks to the exterior fabric prior to construction. I used multi colored thread.

I'll will work on something fun in polymer clay beads to decorate the zipper pulls. For the moment it is dreadfully plain with skinny little zipper pulls.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Try the one seam flying geese block. Its easy and fun.

Yesterday, I added beading embroidery on the back side of this laptop. It sure makes things look wild . . . I'm trying to get up enough nerve to post photos, but my technique isn't sophisticated as I'm just learning about bead embroidery to create surface design and texture. I just ordered an illustrated book on the subject--and hope to learn some fancy stuff.

TanjaH. I'm a reluctant quilter. I try to build same blocks, but the routine of it all defeats me. I have 150 or so flying geese blocks done, but need to make a ton more. Ahhhhhhh. It's almost painful. What do you do to inspire yourself to get through a long long project? Thanks for your great comments on the laptop tote. I always appreciate hearing the word FUNCTIONAL.
