Materials

A ready made Organza Curtain - AND GUMNUTS!!! (For a bit of weight)

What was your inspiration?

I was sick of flies coming inside so I had an inspiration and found an Organza curtain that I had bought for something else -(so long ago I forgot why) - and sewed some Gumnuts (that had been dried, drilled out and holes drilled into them. (I was going to use them for buttons and embellishments on tote bags - I have hundreds!)

The Gumnuts are not as heavy as I thought they would be, I am sitting right beside them, there is a nice breeze blowing the curtain, the nuts are making a noise on the tiled floor - it may send us all around the bend!!!

What are you most proud of?

It looks good. I may even enhance it more by sewing things like flowers, butterflies etc on it in spots. It is functional and if it keeps the flies out then it is doing the job it was intended for!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sit and think!!! You will generally come up with an idea!!!

How about sewing the gumnuts an inch or so above the hem. It would still keep the drape where it needs to be but stop the noise.

That is a good idea, didn't think of that. I shall revisit this project and try again. Coming into winter here now so the door is firmly closed each time.

Great idea - would be awesome for those big bi-fold doors that often aren't screened! Maybe you could make it so the gumnuts sit just off the floor, so it doesn't make as much noise?? And gumnuts - what a great use for them! I might have to send the kids out to collect a bunch for me! :)

Excellent idea!! I have a sliding door to keep the flies out, but with 2 doxies in the summer time, it drives me nuts having to open and close that door everytime. I have a curtain rod there for the winter curtains... indeed, Sit and Think!!
