What is exciting or interesting to you about your photo(s)? In the classes Rob often used rocks as part of his intimate landscapes. In East Anglia (UK) we do not have natural rocks so I have chosen the base of a ruined abbey tower as my rock as a backdrop the flowers, I hope this has worked.

Can you tell us about any special equipment or techniques that you used? Using a Canon 60d for this shot with a Sigma 18-125mm Zoom

I think you have an interesting idea of working your subject against the background of "rock" and lichens. A challenge you are facing is one we all face we see the world differently than the camera. You saw the flowers just fine and all of the other details. The camera could care less about any of that. It only cares about what is light and dark. In this case, the harsh sunlight is creating a lot of light and dark areas next to each other, and the camera is overemphasizing them. That makes the photo hard to discern for anyone other than the photographer who has a memory of taking the shot. This image would look much better on a cloudy day or in the shade.

Thank you Rob for your explanation as to why the picture does not work as well as I had hoped. I felt that it was not right but could not discern why, your comments have helped me towards a better shot next time.
