What materials did you use? Cotton Gauze fabric with elastic thread.

What are you most proud of? The thing that I'm most proud of is that this project inspired Alaina to start sewing. She liked it so much that she bought different fabric to make a dress for her best friend's birthday. Alaina never made a garment before and her creation turned out fantastic. She even used my serger for the 1 seam on the dress!!! (I did coach her, but she did the stitching.)

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Choose a light - medium weight woven or knit fabric. Decide what length you want to make your dress, skirt or top. When using the elastic thread in the bobbin, stitch more slowly to prevent jamming, etc. But the dress is so easy (and inexpensive) to make, you'll make a whole bunch of them. For laundering, wash on gentle/cold cycle and air dry to keep the elastic fresh.

Gail, I have just enrolled in your 40 Techniques Class, and I haven't completed the first lesson, but I am so excited!!! I learned early on about the importance of pressing as you sew, I think I had a really good teacher. But you have just inspired me. I didn't know about the clapper, in fact I wondered what it was in the Materials list before I even took the class. This is one of the best classes. I can't wait to finish the first lesson. I got up early and ordered it, and started watching the first lesson, I have to go to work, and I can't wait to get back and finish it. I have a couple of dresses that I want to make before the end of the year and one has princess seams, I'm glad I saw how you pressed the seams, I always had problems pressing the curves. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It was a great decision to take your class.

When you finish your princess seam dress, post a picture. Would love to see it! A clapper is a cool tool for pressing and the difference it makes on certain fabrics is amazing!

Glad you're enjoying the class and that you've gotten some good tips. Princess seams can be difficult if you don't know a few tricks. But once you do, it makes all the difference in the world! And pressing tools are great additions to everyone's sewing room!
