I started at the bottom of the back and designed as I came forward. The feather border defines the edge and the unwanted fabric still has to be cut away using the scallop of the feather. I wanted to do the over and under of the feather motifs to get dimension as Cindy Needham shows in Design It Quilt It. I got to see the design only after I took the fabric off of the longarm.Difficulty:

The fleece shawl has to be cut out along the outer feather borders yet and the scarf along the straight quilted lines. I am on a longarm. I don't know if I would want to do fleece on a domestic machine.
What was your inspiration?
I entered a shawl in the local quilt show, but gave it away and had to replace it. Instead of duplicating the original, I wanted to use information from Cindy Needham's class.
What are you most proud of?
My over-under is looking more "over-under".
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take a deep breath and do it. It is only a minor investment in fabric and your time will not be wasted because you will be learning and growing.
