Faux ribbing on cuffs

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

I made the faux ribbed cuffs by sewing vertical lines on the fleece with a twin needle.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Funky, Casual, Outdoorsy, Cute

Materials

Fleece

What was your inspiration?

I needed a warm, not too heavy jacket for walking the dog and I loved the color of the fleece.

What are you most proud of?

That I figured out how to put a zipper in and make the faux ribbed cuffs. Also that I made something I will actually wear. It's so cozy on cool mornings!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be patient. It's a learning experience. Re watch the instructions several times if you need to. I did.

It's great that you have made something you love to wear! Stabilising the sides of the zips an iron on fusible helps too. Congrats

It's great! Love the colour! I have not yet started mine. The zipper is a nice touch. I will not insert one in mine, I'm just going to go baby steps, lol.

How did the zipper installation go? I want to put one in mine, but I'm a little nervous...

It was pretty easy. Of course I learned some things. Put the top end of the zipper right next to the top of the hoodie. I put mine too far down and then had to add a button at the neck. Also when I split the pattern down the middle I added an extra 1/2 inch on each side to allow for turning the raw edges under over the zipper. I didn,t realize that that would also make the neck opening larger. As you can see, there's a lot of room around the neck opening. I usually wear a scarf in there. I'm sure there's a better way to do it!

Really cute and creative. If you dont have a coverstitch machine for hem try using a tear away stablizer and twin needles on the hem.

Love this! This class is on my wish list. I have had twin needles for a year... Still in the package.

Cuffs are holded in half so you need twice the width of the cuff. Use fleece that has a lot of stretch. Using a double needle sew vertical lines on the straight of grain (the direction that stretches the least), Fold in half and attach raw end to sleeve. Test needle size and spacing of rows first!

Thank you. This is the first garment I have ever made that I can actually wear!
