Lovely piece of art. I have watched this video twice. Some parts more. I finally am ready to stencil a tee but find I am dragging my feet. I am afraid to lay out the stencil. Any tips as your jacket is sew beautiful???

sewknitgrandma - if you look at my other projects you'll see that I started with really basic stuff. I used an old sheet for my first project, then graduated to recycling thrift store t-shirts. I ended up investing in an air-brush setup and have really enjoyed learning to do the stenciling. Once I felt reasonably competent, I bought the gorgeous fabric from Alabama Chanin, and started creating my own versions of commercial patterns. So the best tip I can give you is to start simple, and don't be afraid to experiment. Have fun!

Thanks DoreenG and emilyb! This blazer is based loosely on Simplicity 2341, with an added front placket and covered buttons. (It's the same pattern I used for my "Wannabe Alabama Tuck Coat" which is also posted in projects.) I found some good mylar/plastic stuff for the stencil at my local art supply store, Artists and Craftsman's Supply. My earlier efforts were difficult because I was using mylar that was too thick, but the thin stuff is super easy to cut with an exacto knife, and seems to hold up fine.
